THE CLUB
HISTORY
The 1980's first saw BMX launched upon the UK from across the pond, bringing with it brand names such as Redline, Robinson, SE Racing, GT, Haro, DG, Webco, Mongoose and Torker, some of which are still available today. BMX's popularity heralded the construction of a small BMX track just off Whitehouse Road in Bircotes and the track was used for a number of years by local riders, however, as BMX's popularity dwindled towards the back end of the eighties, the track fell into disrepair and the land it was built on was eventually sold off for housing.
Throughout the 90's a resurgence in the popularity of BMX, not just Racing but all disciplines such as Skatepark, Vert and Street brought a renewed and sustained interest in Harworth and Bircotes for the sport. This rekindled affinity brought with it a new generation of riders encouraged by parents, some of whom are ex-riders, some of whom still ride, who had been bitten by the BMX bug when the sport first hit our shores over twenty years ago.
As part of a project driven by Nottinghamshire Police Force to cut crime and to reduce the occurrence of youth crime, several projects were considered within the town, one of which was the construction of a brand new BMX track for the increasingly large number of BMX riders and racers throughout Harworth and Bircotes who had the talent but nowhere local in which to train and develop that talent.
